Achievements of Sir Edmund Hillary.

Edmund Hillary, also known as Sir Edmund Percival Hillary, was born in the year 1919 in Auckland, New Zealand. He was a mountain climber and Antarctic explorer who, along with Tenzing Norgay, a Tibetan mountaineer, was the first to climb the foot summit of Mount Everest on May 29th, 1953.

Also, Edmund Hillary was a member of the group that went to explore the South Pole by land. They were the first to cross Antarctica and reach the South Pole by land. He was the leader of the New Zealand division of the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition that reached the South Pole in the year 1958. It can be noted that, beyond these, Sir Edmund Hillary also provided aid to help the people of Nepal by helping them in the development of their society.

He also served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force during the Second World War. He joined the forces in 1943 and was transferred to Fiji and the Solomon Islands in 1945, where he met with a boating accident and got severe burns.

After the successful climb to Mount Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary and Sir John Hunt published their journey as "The Ascent of Everest", which was published in the US as "The Conquest of Everest." He also wrote his autobiography, "Nothing Venture, Nothing Win," which was published in 1975.

He devoted his life to helping the Sherpa people, for which he founded the Himalayan Trust, which built schools, transportation hubs, and hospitals in Nepal. He also served as the High Commissioner of New Zealand to Nepal, India, and Bangladesh from 1985 to 1988. He was honored as an honorary citizen of Nepal in the year 2003 on the 50th anniversary of reaching the peak. It can be seen that various geographic regions have his name, and his image is featured on the five-dollar note of New Zealand.
